ST4s ABS
This is the first Ducati to include an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), adding a
new level of safety to the Sporttouring family. The state-of-the-art
ABS system engineered by Ducati delivers unprecedented performance in
comparison to the systems currently found in the industry.
The purpose of the ABS system is to prevent the wheels from locking-up
during emergency braking and low traction situations, one of the main causes of
falling on a motorcycle.
The ABS does not reduce the braking distance with respect to that obtainable
by perfect braking by an expert, but minimises the distance according to the
friction coefficient and, so, the asphalt's maximum grip. Even the most expert
rider would not be able to attain this type of performance in all conditions.
The system installed on the Ducati ST4s is produced by Bosch and has
had its settings developed by Brembo in collaboration with Ducati.
An important goal for Ducati in introducing the ABS system was to ensure that
the Ducati system maintained the same "feeling" as a traditional
system. Reacting to the sports riding priorities of the ST4 customer, the
Ducati system gives optimum sports braking feel and feedback, as opposed
to the "spongy" feeling typical of other ABS systems for motorcycles.
